Citizens TV is showing the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Hamden-North Haven 2019 Breakfast with the Legislators on CTV Channel 96 (Comcast) and Channel 6012 (Frontier) Mondays at 4 pm, Tuesdays at 8 pm, Thursdays at 8pm, Saturdays at 9 am, and Sundays at 4 pm.
The Breakfast was held at The Whitney Center in Hamden on Jan. 26. In the audience of more than 100 were Hamden mayor Curt B. Lang (LWV member), North Haven First Selectman Mike Freda, and about a dozen students from Hamden High. One student had persuaded his mother to come and another–her grandmother. Both women were glad they came and the organizers were all smiles about this student initiative.
The annual LWV Breakfast begins with state legislators having breakfast and engaging in discussion with voters at round tables. For the second hour, the legislators move up on the stage and answer questions and express opinions in response to written questions from the audience that are read by a moderator.
Responding to questions were Rep. Michael D’Agostino, Sen. George Logan, Sen. Martin Looney, and Rep. Robyn Porter (LWV member). Usually, all state elected officials who represent Hamden and North Haven attend the Breakfast Reps. This year, Josh Elliott and Dave Yaccarino were out due to sickness (Rep. Yaccarino was dismayed to break his perfect LWV Breakfast attendance record!). Sen. Len Fasano did not attend.
LWV welcomes as members men (since 1974) and women who wish to become better informed about how we govern ourselves at the municipal and state levels. LWV neither supports nor opposes political candidates and offers a non-partisan approach to civic participation.
