Hamden man hit by car crossing Dixwell Avenue

HAMDEN – A Hamden man suffered what police described as life-threatening injuries Thursday morning when he was hit by a car as he tried to cross Dixwell Avenue.

The incident happened at about 8 a.m. Thursday, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Skiff Street.

“A 30-year-old Hamden resident was crossing Skiff Street when he was struck by a motor vehicle that was traveling eastbound,” Smith said in a release Friday.

“He was not in the established crosswalk at the time of impact,” Smith said.

Hamden Fire Rescue responded to treat the victim, who was then taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Smith said.

“The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with life-threatening injuries,” Smith said, adding that he’s now listed in stable condition.

Officer David Falcigno of the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division is conducting the investigation, Smith said. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact Officer Falcigno at (203) 230-4000 ext. 8220.
