HAMDEN – Police are investigating two robberies that happened in the last week, both involving handguns.
The first occurred on Dec. 7 at about 3:30 p.m. at Snack Plus, 75 Putnam Ave., where a black man robbed the store at gunpoint, making off with cigarettes and money, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
The suspect is described as between 5’9″ to 6′ tall with a medium build and wearing dark colored clothing. He fled the store heading north on Glendale Street, Smith said.
Two days later, on Dec. 9 at about 8 p.m. police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Goodrich Street on the report of an armed street robbery, Smith said.
“The investigation revealed that a 23-year-old Hamden resident was walking eastbound on Goodrich Street, carrying a bag of food,” Smith said. He was approached by a black male, about 5’10”, with a thin build and wearing dark-colored clothing, Smith said.
The man, who showed the suspect a gun, “grabbed a bag of cheeseburgers from the victim,” Smith said. He then fled on foot west on Goodrich Street, he said.
