To the Editor:
Let’s be honest – nobody likes getting stuck in construction or roadwork when they are driving. When you’re on your way home from work, bringing the kids to practice, or running errands – hardly anything inconveniences you quite like traffic delays due to construction.
Often times when this happens, I wouldn’t call myself the happiest camper – but I remind myself that these men are working hard to improve my day-to-day ability to get around.
Right now, the town of Hamden is in full-swing with their Fall paving program – and I find myself feeling more excited than inconvenienced. The working going on around Hamden is truly incredible, with the town posting an expected paving list of more than 55 streets and over 11 miles of roadways total. That is really spectacular.
When Mayor Leng ran for office in 2015, part of his platform was a focus on improving the town’s sidewalks and streets. Since 2015, Hamden has paved more than 35 miles of roadways. That is substantial progress if you consider that Hamden has approximately 240 miles of roadways in total – which means the town has paved about 30% of the town in only two years! Sounds like Mayor Leng is actually working for his campaign promises, and as a taxpaying resident, I can appreciate that.
These infrastructure improvements have made Hamden’s roads smoother and safer, and have breathed new life into a number of neighborhoods around town. I like getting to work more easily, I like getting my kids to practice with no hassle, and I like when my property value increases because my neighborhood street has been repaired. I want to see these improvements continue, and I bet you do too.
Thank you to Hamden Public Works for their consistent excellence, and thank YOU, Mayor Leng, for your efforts to improve Hamden’s infrastructure and to bring much needed life to Hamden’s neighborhood communities.
